Burger King To Launch New Mobile Game

"The King is calling.

Burger King has announced plans to create downloadable mobile games featuring Burger King content, according to the South Florida Business Journal.

The Miami-based fast food giant says mobile games will launch next spring, and enable players to vie for the role of the King's protégé..."

"...As I recently talked about in my Generation Wow blog, Burger King sold $2 million worth of the advergames in-store, and boosted burger sales 10%. Mobile games bring the whole effort a step farther by putting the brand in the hands of million of die hard fans.

Listen to my recent conversation with Crispin creative genius Alex Bogusky on the whole Burger King gaming effort, here, here and here.

Solve the Mystery of the Maze

"This very funny video, courtesy of Ogilvy & IBM, is a great example of what people are talking about when they (over)use the word integration.

It's the first of three videos that are being sent to IT guys around the US in an email that urges them to join an online scavenger hunt in order to save Ned and Gil, IBM's hapless Abbott & Costello team, from the maze of (non-IBM) machines they're trapped in.

Joining the scavenger hunt requires them to solve a series of cleverly/torturously worded riddles to get to the next level. In the first few days, the site got 4,000 hits and 2 people solved the first riddle.

As for the video (I'm told the others will be posted as they're released in the email waves) it works because, unlike so much work in the category, it doesn't take itself so damned seriously. It's a joke, the audience is in on it, and the actors are clearly having fun."

Dark M&M's Movie Game

Mmsdark_1 "Last month, Mars annouced that it would make Dark M&M's, a dark chocolate version of their popular candy, a permanent part of their product line-up.  It's part of an ongoing effort to appeal to the older consumer's palate.  Remember when grown-ups had to content themselves with Toffifay ("It's too good for kids")?

And what better way to sever the kiddie connection than by associating your brand with horror films?  The Dark M&M's Movie Game  challenges you to find 50 "dark movies" hidden in a Hieronymus Bosch-inspired painting.  It's similar to an earlier Virgin game that's part of their "Exercise Your Music Muscle" campaign.  (Thanks to Michael Miller and Chris Portella)"
